The avalanche hit on Saturday afternoon at an altitude of 1,300 metres (4,265 feet) on the Schuetzensteig mountain, located a few kilometres (miles) away from the Austrian Tyrol region.
A third person was rescued with serious injuries after some 70 rescue workers combed the area for possible victims, police said, adding that the search had been halted at nightfall.
No further information has so far been released regarding the victims.
