Starfish International, an organization committed to empowering girls in The Gambia, recently welcomed a second delegation from One Planet Group to experience firsthand the significant impact of their programs.

Starfish International focuses on delivering quality education and mentorship to Gambian girls, helping them develop into confident, well-educated, and service-oriented leaders. The organization's curriculum integrates academics, life skills, and leadership development, offering a transformative experience that aims to build a foundation for future generations.

During their week-long visit, the One Planet Group team engaged deeply with the Starfish community. They participated in classes, interacted with students, and explored the wide range of programs that Starfish provides. The team also shadowed students in their daily routines, gaining crucial insights into their living conditions and household responsibilities. This immersive experience highlighted the profound influence of Starfish International's initiatives on the lives of these young girls.

"Starfish International is doing something remarkable by uplifting an entire generation of girls through education, and we are deeply grateful to play a small part in supporting their mission. I thank them immensely for hosting our team, as Starfish's impact can only be fully understood through first-hand experience," said Payam Zamani, Founder of One Planet Group.

Mam Yassin Sarr, Founder and Director of Starfish International, expressed, "Partnering with One Planet Group is one of the most special gifts of doing this service. Having professionals and leaders in their fields, who have a heart for giving back, commit to rolling up their sleeves and coming to teach, learn, plan and execute with our students every summer, is lifelong learning at its best. Our girls know, not only that they are loved, but also, firsthand, that they can follow the same path as these mentors, achieve their dreams, and keep on serving."

The visit also featured a tour of 'The Land,' where new facilities have been developed with the support of funds raised during One Planet Group's 2022 and 2023 Holidays with a Purpose events. These new additions include classrooms, a satellite library, and skill-building workshops, which serve as essential resources for local youth.

Holidays with a Purpose, an initiative by One Planet Group, has raised over 2 million dollars for organizations supporting women's rights, empowerment, and education. The 2023 event raised $141,000, with $100,000 contributed directly by One Planet Group. Last year's event also supported Lide Haiti, a non-profit focused on education in rural Haiti, providing programs in arts, education, health, and community engagement for over 1,200 adolescent girls.

Looking forward, the upcoming Holidays with a Purpose event, scheduled for December 12, 2024, will continue to support Starfish International and will also benefit Parent University, an initiative based in Savannah, Georgia, that empowers parents to engage actively in their children's education.

One Planet Group upholds the belief that service to humanity often rewards the giver as much as the receiver. They are thankful for the opportunity to contribute to the impactful work of organizations like Starfish International and others that strive to make a positive difference through people-centered initiatives.
